08:00 – 09:00 (Oct 15): Responsible Use of Generative AI in Academic Publishing

Generative AI has become widespread in the academic community, but it is essential to use it responsibly and effectively to maximize its benefit. In this session, we will first review common limitations in using generative AI along with mitigation strategies to improve confidence in the produced output.  We will also cover ethical and editorial guidelines on the responsible use of generative AI to establish best practices in academia.

13:30 – 14:30 (Oct 15): Making an Impact at Academic Conferences

Attending academic conferences plays an important part in the development of a researcher's profile in their field – if they do it well. In this session, we first discuss how to develop an impactful academic presentation that engages your audience while communicating your key message. We then review professional presentation skills to help researchers present with confidence and improve their impact. Lastly, we highlight strategies that researchers can effectively use to build their network with others at conferences that can help create career and collaborative opportunities.
